Zip Fastener 20″ Oatmeal

Sewing to zipper:

Use a large tapestry or yarn needle. If zipper is too long, the extra length can be cut off from the top of the zipper. Slide the pull down and cut off the unneeded length. Whip stitch around teeth (on both sides) about ½” from cut top.

1. Pin finished knitwear to zipper tape. Thread needle with long length of yarn.
2. Sew knitwear to zipper tape by taking a backstitch through the knitwear and into the loose weave channel.
3. On wrong side, cover edge of zipper tape with a blanket stitch. Insert needle point into channel and come up just outside of zipper tape edge. Catch a small amount of knitwear. Pass needle over yarn loop from last stitch to form edge of blanket stitch. This will make the zipper almost invisible when worn.
4. Sew other side of knitwear to zipper and finish with blanket stitch.

Casting stitches onto zipper:

Use a 2.5mm or K crochet hook. If zipper is too long, the extra length can be cut off from the top of the zipper. Slide the pull down and cut off the unneeded length. Whip stitch around teeth (on both sides) about ½” from cut top.

1. On right side about ¼” from bottom end of zipper, push crochet hook through loose weave channel near zipper teeth.
2. Bring loop of yarn up through channel and slip over knitting needle point. Move down channel and push crochet hook into channel again to pick up yarn. Pull through channel to form loop. Make sure stitches are evenly spaced and have the same tension. Spacing between stitches should equal the diameter of knitting needle.
3. Continue until the desired number of stitches have been pulled up through the channel and placed on the knitting needle. Cut off yarn leaving a 12” tail.
4. Knit as desired with a new yarn end.
5. Bring yarn tails to back of zipper tape and knot together.
